FOUNDATION - 1865
Only 22 years old, too young, in 1865 Georges Favre-Jacot founded the "Fabrique des Billodes" in Le Locle.
Georges Favre-Jacot - Founder of Zenith
First he manufactured precision pocket watches, which were signed with his name.
By 1900 the product range was expanded: There were onboard timers, clocks, pendulum clocks, precision marine chronometers and later.
The name "ZENITH" came to his mind when he developed a movement that seemed more perfect than all the previous ones.
Looking at the sky full of stars, it seemed like the set of wheels and cones in a perfect instrument mechanic, he decided that his new movement and its confection should be named as the highest point of the universe:
ZENITH
From this emerged a five-pointed star as a corporate icon.
Since 1903 the company Favre-Jacot and regularly participated very successfully in competitions of Neuchatel observatory with its pocket watches and chronometers aboard.
In 1903 he won a first prize in the Neuchâtel Observatory.
The nephew of Favre-Jacot: Favre James sold the watches to North America, South America, Russia, India, China and Japan
In 1908, followed by the opening of a branch in Moscow in 1909 in Paris, 1910 in Vienna and 1914 in London.
ZENITH BRAND
By turning the company into a corporation in 1911 to mark ZENITH emerged.
In the same year, Favre-Jacot retired and handed the management of the company James Favre.
By James Favre, there was a revival of old traditions, especially with the "Neuchâteloises."
These pendulum clocks were equipped with a new chime 8 days and custom, also had a repeat of a quarter of an hour.
In 1923, he founded another company in Besançon French, and in 1926 an additional office in New York.
After World War I, the ZENITH began with the development and manufacture of watches including chronograph and alarm functions.
The movements by Valjoux chronographs, Excelsior Park and Martel from 1960, were bought and used by Zenith.
In May 1929, the astronomical observatory in England told the public that 19,835 watches worldwide ZENITH a watch set a new record, with a daily deviation of only 0.6 seconds.

Mondia and Movado are included in the company and this merger comes to holding "Mondia-Zenith-Movado".

In contrast to the "Chronomatic" "El Primero" is produced today with great success and is highly esteemed by connoisseurs as one of chronograph movements with the highest quality in the world.

Believing in your imagination of the future Americans soon lost interest in mechanical movements, and in 1978 ordered the cessation of production of all movements and machines, and decided to destroy everything.
Thanks to Charles Vermot the move "El Primero" was saved for the future.
He objected to the order and hid large quantities of plants, tools, machines, and all design drawings and fabrication workshop in the attic.
In late 1978, the ZENITH brand was sold to the Swiss Dixi.
With the support of watchmaker Ebel production of "EL PRIMERO" was resumed.
