- Summary
BULOVA ACCUTRON is introducing its new Curaçao Collection this summer, featuring a blend of strength and sportiness marrying Swiss made quality with a taste for challenges.
Able to withstand considerable pressure of up to 30 bar, the case conveys a sophisticated aesthetic and houses, depending on the version, either a Sellita SW200 mechanical self-winding movement, or a Ronda 5030.D quartz chronograph calibre. In both cases, the graduated unidirectional bezel serves to calculate dive times, while the screw-down case and screw-lock crown ensure that both movements provide optimal performance to impressive depths.
The mechanical versions feature a nod to the underwater world in the shape of a date framed by a semi-circle resembling a porthole riveted to the dial. The quartz versions ensure high-precision displays that are readable even at great depths thanks to the luminescent counter hands.
While perfectly suited to the aquatic milieu, the Curaçao collection exercises an undeniable visual appeal. Its steel case comes in black PVD or rose gold treated versions, framing a dial with faceted hour-markers and openworked hands.
It is equipped with a large-link steel bracelet or a rubber strap with tone-on-tone motifs echoing the dial pattern. These daring timepieces will delight sports enthusiasts and underwater adventurers.
Joseph Bulova, founder of the Bulova Corporation, filed a patent in 1929 in the United States for an ingenious system that would become known as the “Dust-Tite Protector”. This invention consisted of a metal ring snugly fitted around the movement mainplate. Together with an overlying flange and crystal, it forms a shield that is itself covered by the case-back. Initially intended to protect the calibre from dust, this system also made the timepiece watertight.
Joseph Bulova was a brilliant visionary who already in the 1920s played a pioneering role in the quest for water resistance – an innovative tradition that is perpetuated to this day at BULOVA ACCUTRON and reflected in the Curaçao watches that are water-resistant to a depth of 300 metres.
