- Summary
Basel, 02.04.08 – The stunning new Code Breaker watch would be at home on the frame of any sophisticated science fiction movie. Just as plots of this genre love to send the viewer on time travels to the past and future, this watch takes the concept of time keeping into a totally new era. Its chunky titanium case creates a distinctive time capsule of its own, while other edgy design features launch the imagination into diversified realms of bank safes, bulldozers and spaceships.
The special effects
Code Breaker virtually gained iconic status before it left the drawing board. Its squared case can play a wide range of roles depending on the model – brushed titanium, black PVD and yellow or rose gold PVD are all shades of tomorrow’s rainbow. It comes in two size and movement versions – the larger of which containing an auto chrono movement. Many of the watches have a rubber strap formed like a bulldozer track, ready to take on anything up to and including the moon’s surface. Gold PVD and white versions of the smaller automatic model offer the alternative of a stitched leather strap, while the larger watch in its gold PVD interpretation teams up with a dark brown caiman back tail attachment.
Captured frames
Attention to detail is key in the making of a science fiction blockbuster – the design of Code Breaker obeys the same rules. The upper and lower edge of the case’s front are marked with small, raised metal dots. Easy-to-read digits encircle the black or white dials’ main rings, presenting the distinct look of a timeless navigation instrument. The chronograph counters echo this high-tech style. Two ergonomic buttons and a crown on the right-hand side of the case constitute the crucial control panel that literally makes time travel.
Celebrating a science-fiction heritage
Hamilton has a long-standing relationship with the science fiction movie genre, dating back to 1968. This was the year when Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey came out, with its groundbreaking visual effects – and the specially designed Hamilton wristwatch and a desk clock. Roles in over 20 major science fiction titles have followed since, with the impressive list featuring ‘I Am Legend’, ‘Men in Black’, ‘War of the Worlds’ , ‘Independence Day’ and ‘The Hulk’. Hamilton has convincingly proven it is at home where time meets technology – yesterday, today and tomorrow.
