Heritage Chronograph 1

Porsche Design has just launched the Heritage Chronograph 1 in celebration of the brand’s 40th Anniversary this year.

The Chronograph 1 is sold as a limited edition box set along with the brand’s iconic P’8478 sunglasses.

Innovative functionality in its most beautiful form
Bietigheim-Bissingen/Grenchen. Forty years ago, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche founded the Porsche Design studio and his own luxury brand Porsche De-sign.

And for the past four decades, the studio has produced numerous classics of superlative design. In fact, Porsche Design developed an entirely new category of luxury products: engineered luxury.
The first product was the black Chronograph I, which immediately revolutionised the watch industry. The exclusive spectacles that followed became the world's most successful sunglasses ever. The two items are still available to this day in their original form. And the reason for this is mainly be-cause of the special "iconic style" of Porsche Design and the luxury brand's conviction that innovative functionality must be presented in its most beautiful form.

The philosophy for the luxury brand's creative work was essentially clear: "If you think about the function of an object, the form appears all by itself at times."

Design must be functional, and that functionality must be integrated visually in the aesthet-ics, without any gimmicks that have to be explained.

The purism of Porsche Design therefore demands authenticity at all times and it will highlight whatever is unneces-sary or superfluous. Ever since it was founded, the luxury brand Porsche Design has worked along the principle epitomised by its very first product.

Thanks to its design, the Chronograph I has become a part of the history of timekeeping: F. A. Porsche chose a matt back for the watch case, the strap and the dial.

The writing, the hands and the bar indices are filled with a white luminescent mass. The result was a resolutely unadorned watch, an idea considered unthinkable and revolution-ary in 1972. The only touch of colour is the long stop-second hand, which is red.

This avoids irritating reflections and guarantees perfect readability of the dial.

The limited edition and numbered anniversary box, "40Y of Iconic Products", con-tains the new release of the Chronograph I from the "Iconic Style" collection in an exclusive, matt silver grey.

In addition to the classic watch, the collector's box in-cludes the legendary exclusive P'8478 sunglasses – the second Porsche Design product – in a special 40Y version.

The logo on the temples and the inside surfaces adopt the colour scheme of the red second hand of the Chronograph I as an hom-age to the past four decades of the luxury brand.

The anniversary set is limited to 911 pieces world-wide.
