SOME WATCHES JUST CATCH YOUR EYE - THIS IS ONE OF THEM
ZENITH presents one of the major accomplishments in the watchmaking industry, a creation that required a full five years of technical
A Major milestone in mechanical watchmaking inspired by the legendary marine chronometer instrument
The decision to give name of Christopher Columbus is in the nature of this complex model, whose intention is to solve one of the main challenges that faced this intrepid sailor, and continues to haunt the watch industry of today: obtain measurements of time precise instruments subject to a constant movement that impair their accuracy.
The name with witch the ZENITH christened this watch is not only a tribute to one of the greatest adventurers in history: it is also a historical legacy, as the ZENITH created a stopwatch Lépine movement in the early of the 20 century, with an exhaust dubbed of "Echappement Colomb" This clock is 20½ was awarded by the observatory of Neuchatel, which gave 3 first prizes and the observatory of Kew Teddigton which received a "Class A certificate especially good"
As you know, keep the regulator ina horizontal position allows the balance reach and maintain the fullest extent possible, which greatly improves accuracy. The ZENITH Manufacture has therefore decided to ensure that the regulator and escape to remain permanently in this position.
Obviously, this intention was simpler in theory than in practice, since it is very difficult to maintain a horizontal watch for the different daily activities.
Applying this principle to a movement that, besides having other complex traits, has an exceptionally high cadence of 10 alternations per second, helps explain why the need for five years in order to present one of the greatest achievements of the watcmakers craft recent times. Some figures describe the extreme complexity of this task, based on 166 parts comprised of complication, while a tourbillon normally not exceed 66 parts. The result is the first wristwatch whose march is completely independent of the movements of its user.
For all these reasons, Manufacture ZENITH considers this system to be the ultimate evolution in comparsion to the existing tourbillon systems
